Residence of Nataraj Ramaiah is a private residence located in Kotturpuram, Chennai, completed in 2012. The residence reflects a contemporary interpretation of tropical architecture, blending clean modern forms with subtle vernacular influences. Characterized by sloping Mangalore-tiled roofs, deep projecting eaves, exposed timber brackets, and large vertically proportioned openings, the design responds effectively to Chennai’s warm climate while maintaining a refined architectural expression. The composition balances solid plastered walls with generous fenestration, allowing ample natural light and cross ventilation throughout the interiors. A restrained palette of white rendered surfaces, terracotta roof tiles, timber detailing, and landscaped setbacks lends the residence a timeless elegance. The house demonstrates a harmonious integration of climate-responsive planning, functional living spaces, and understated architectural detailing, resulting in a home that is both contemporary and contextually rooted.
